Computer processors are not the only thing you can overclock on your computer. Videocards also have a processor called a GPU which stands for graphics processing Unit.
Now unlike a computer processor where you can overclock the CPU by changing the settings in your BIOS, videocards require software to make the changes.
Now various software is available to achieve this but some are only for ATI and some only for NVIDIA cards.
I suggest using
Powerstrip it has a 30 day trial limitation but it's a cool piece of software.
The main thing is no matter what overclocking software you use there's only two things you can change. First thing is the core speed and second memory speed.
On to overclocking.
-Start with small increments on the core settings first say 10-15mhz increase. apply the setting and now on to part 2.
-Use a program like 3dmark, or Unreal Tournament benchmark test to see if you get any artifacts or screen tearing. If the graphics seem to be worse decrease the mhz, if they're ok you can move the core speed up a few more mhz. Continue testing until you get the highest stable mhz possible.
-Now using the above process do the same to the memory speed.
That's it your done. If you want to push your card further try the following suggestions:
-Use a good thermal paste under your cards heatsink.
-Replace the fan with a fan with higher CFM (cubic feet per minute).
-Consider putting heatsinks on your cards memory chips
-Go extreme and use a water cooling system.
